Students are expected to make use of more advanced problem solving skills and to work more independently. Topics of study are the same as those for Chemistry 12 (Properties of Solutions Thermochemistry Kinetics Solution Equilibria Acid, Bases and Salts Oxidation and Reduction Reactions and, Electrochemistry) but are covered in more depth. Unit 4: Electrochemical Changes – examines electrochemical systems, analyses of oxidation-reduction systems, and quantifies the matter and energy involved.Īdvanced Chemistry 12 is an enriched version of Chemistry 12 for students with above-average ability, with a particular interest in the subject and who are self-motivated. This investigation leads to factors that affect the rates of chemical reactions, chemical equilibrium and quantitative treatment of reaction systems Unit 3: Solutions, Kinetics and Equilibrium – focuses to develop the understanding of mixtures, solutions, bonding and the stoichiometry that relates. Unit 2: Equilibrium: Acids and Bases in Chemical Changes – explains that few chemical reactions proceed in only one direction and investigates chemical systems at equilibrium Changes in physical and chemical systems are explored Unit 1: Thermochemical Changes - explores how heat, a form of energy, is absorbed or released in chemical reactions. Chemistry 12 consists of four units of study:
